Erma Carter is a native of Portsmouth Virginia. In April of 1971, she married her high school sweetheart, Pastor Cordell Carter Sr., also of Portsmouth, VA. She has been an active and faithful Pastor’s wife, assisting her husband in the ministry since 1999. Paster Carter and First Lady Carter have three adult children, Pamela Bennett (Tony) of Woodbridge, VA, Cordell Carter II (Gersande) of Bethesda, MD, and Tramaine Walton (Stephen) of Portsmouth, VA., and four grandchildren.
First Lady Carter was saved in the Church of God in Christ, and has been a member of this church for many years. Lady Carter is a licensed Evangelist Missionary with the North Carolina 2nd Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction under the leadership and direction of Bishop Stenneth E. Powell and State Supervisor Patricia D. Lofton. She is currently assigned to the Richmond Metropolitan District in Virginia.
First Lady Carter is a firm believer in the phrase, “whatsoever your hands find to do, do it heartily as unto the Lord.” In addition to serving the Lord, our Jesus Christ, First Lady Carter has served in various capacities in the church. She has actively worked in the kitchen as a cook for our Community Feeding Project, and she has worked with the the church clean-up committee. First Lady Carter has served as a youth coordinator, choir member, and praise & worship leader. She has taken part in door-to-door ministry and other outreach ministries. First Lady Carter has worked with auxiliaries including Young Women's Christian Counsel (YWCC), Women’s Ministry, and Minister and Deacon Wives.
Evangelist Missionary Carter loves the Lord, and the service of the Lord. Some of her favorite things to do include travelling, attending church conferences, and shopping. By occupation she is a retired License Practical Nurse with over 40 years experience. She now devotes full-time to the church and the service of the Lord.
